Prequel Prototype Lightsaber Hilt
Photographed with it's final design screen used counterpart for comparison.

This is a prototype prequel saber hilt design that has detail that ultimately went unused. The hilt style was ultimately both used as Jedi Master Ki-Adi Mundi's hilt design as well as by Anakin Skywalker in Episode 2. This hilt was detailed more intricately than the final design. It has a different paint scheme and has added on details such as bubbles to mimic the calculator bubbles on the Original Trilogy sabers as well as a thin metal wire glued into one of the recesses. It is clear that the Episode One design team at one point considered going with saber designs that more closely resembled those of the original Trilogy and this is an incredible artifact of what might have been. The prototype was created during pre-production of Episode One and came directly from the set shortly before the release of the film in early 1999.
